About Depression

The Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale - 21 Items (DASS-21) is the short version of the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS). The DASS is a set of three self-report scales designed to measure the negative emotional states of depression, anxiety and stress. The DASS was constructed not merely as another set of scales to measure conventionally defined emotional states, but to further the process of defining, understanding, and measuring the ubiquitous and clinically significant emotional states usually described as depression, anxiety and stress. The DASS should thus meet the requirements of both researchers and scientist-professional clinicians.

When should you consider this assessment?

If several of these experiences have been present for two weeks or more and are affecting your daily life — work, sleep, relationships — a screening assessment is a good first step to understand what you are going through.

How the assessment works

About 8 minutes. Each one asks how often you have experienced something recently. You can go back and change any answer before you submit, and you will see every answer on a review screen first.

What happens after?

You will get a patient-friendly report: a severity band, a breakdown of which areas weigh heaviest, key observations from your answers, and clear next steps. If it would help to talk to someone, we will suggest therapists who work with depression.
